When I used to rule over Israel as a king, the Lord had blessed me with so much glory, that “He placed my enemies as a stool for my feet”(psalm 110). My kingdom lasted seventy years, knowing that the everlasting kingdom was yet to come, along with its eternal king. Ever since I’m waiting, along with thousands of souls, anticipating His arrival.

The first humans, Adam and Eve and all the prophets and righteous men who ever lived on earth, we all are waiting... “but my trust is in you, O Lord(psalm 31:14) for you will not leave my soul in hell”(psalm 16:10).

There is much darkness around us, yet it is the most luminous place in hades. The doors are shut and locked, keeping us safe from the demons.

- A loud voice is reverberating in the gloomy halls -

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near!”(matthew 3:2)

“Is this the Messiah?” some of us asked.

“He is the voice of one shouting in the wilderness”(John 1:23), the one I mentioned in my prophesy!” screamed prophet Isaiah aloud.

“Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight!”(Mark 1:3) shouted the prophet,
as we all are gathering up to listen to him.

“The Messiah has come to save the world”, he says, “the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.” (Matthew 11:5) My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him,”(psalm 28:7) for we are receiving the Good News in hades! All of us are excited and in great joy, as the prophecy has been fulfilled! “In the place of the dead there is excitement over your arrival. The spirits of world leaders and mighty kings long dead stand up to see you. (Isaiah 14:9).

- A huge shiny cross is appearing above us -  

“It is the Messiah!” “His arrival has come! Tearing down the gates of hell!”, everyone shouted.

He is coming surrounded by his holy angels, enlightening in his light every angle of hades, and every knee bows down before him. We are standing in awe before his glory chanting unanimously “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”(Mark 11:9) ...

It is the third day, and the Lord says “it is finished”(John 19:28-30)

The angels start singing, “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!”(paschal troparion)

It is bigamy to love and to dream

“It is bigamy to love and to dream” says the greek poet Odysseas Elytis. As it is impossible for oil and water to mix, same goes for love and dream. You can always be dreaming in the world of fantasy, but love exclusively exists in reality. Love can only be experienced in the presence, whereas dreams merely exist in the past or in the future, since dreaming is the absence of mind. Someone can be daydreaming or sleeping and missing the presence, therefore the possibility to love and to be loved, but love is only experienced in a state of awareness and watchfulness, thus when the mind does not wander staying in the now.
And if death is connected with sleep and dreaming, then love is connected with life, for a life without love is meaningless. Finally we can say “God is love”(John 4:16) and in his love, we can live the true life, “for he is not a God of the dead, but of the living, for all live unto him.”(Luke 20:38). As a psalm says “...Beware, therefore O my soul, lest thou be borne down with sleep, lest thou be given up to death, and lest thou be shut out from the Kingdom. Wherefore rouse thyself and cry: Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, our God, Through the protection of the Heavenly Hosts save us.” D.C

Είναι διγαμία ν’ αγαπάς και να ονειρεύεσαι.(Οδυσσέας Ελύτης)

Εδώ και κάτι μέρες βρίσκω τον εαυτό μου συνεπαρμένο από αυτά τα λόγια του Οδυσσέα Ελύτη, που με ώθησαν στην τελική να καταγράψω κάποιες σκέψεις, πάνω σε αυτή τη ρήση του "Είναι διγαμία ν’ αγαπάς και να ονειρεύεσαι". 

Ανεξάρτητα από το αν κατανοήσεις αυτή τη φράση με την πρώτη ματιά ή όχι, σε γεμίζει τρόπον τινά με ένα αίσθημα δέους...λες και στέκεσαι μπροστά σε ένα απόκρυφο μεγαλείο, που αν τυχόν το ανακαλύψεις, θα σου δώσει την απάντηση πάνω στα μεγαλύτερα ερωτήματα της ζωής, λές και όλη η ουσία και το νόημα αυτού του κόσμου και όλου του σύμπαντος, κρύβεται μέσα σε αυτά τα αινοιγματικά και μυστηριώδεις λόγια...!!

Γιατί όμως άραγε να είναι διγαμία ν' αγαπάς και να ονειρεύεσαι; Είναι δηλαδή ηθικά σωστό, να απορρίψεις το ένα και να προσκολληθείς στο άλλο; Και τι είναι τέλος πάντων το σωστό;

Αν το σκεφτούμε λιγάκι, θα παρατηρήσουμε πως αυτές οι δύο έννοιες, η αγάπη και το όνειρο, είναι αδύνατον να συνυπάρξουν, απλούστατα διότι βρίσκονται σε δύο διαφορετικές χρονολογικές σφαίρες. Η αγάπη υπάρχει πάντοτε στο παρόν, ενώ το όνειρο το συναντάς στο παρελθόν ή στο μέλλον. 

Και όπως φώς και σκότος δε συγχέονται και όπως η αλήθεια δεν μπορεί να συνυπάρξει με το ψέμα, έτσι και η Αγάπη δε συμφιλιώνεται με το όνειρο. 

Πιστεύω, ότι το όνειρο μπορεί να υπάρξει μόνο σε τούτο τον εφήμερο κόσμο, ενώ στην αιωνιότητα βασιλεύει η αθάνατη Αγάπη.

Ο Θεός αγάπη εστίν(Ιω.Α' κ.4), και όποιος έζησε αυτή την Αγάπη, βιώνει την πραγματικότητα και αιωνιότητα! Δε σκέφτεται ούτε δευτερόλεπτο να απομακρυνθεί από την παρουσία αυτής της Αγάπης, ονειροπολώντας σε κόσμους ψευδείς και φανταστικούς. Όποιος αγαπάει αληθινά, στα πλαίσια της εν Χριστώ αγάπης, δεν ονειρεύεται, αλλά ζεί τη Ζωή, ζεί τον ζώντα Θεό. 

Όποιος βίωσε τα λεγόμενα, κατανόησε και το νόημα της ζωής. Ο νοών νοείτω! Καλή Σταύρωση και καλή Ανάσταση σε όλους!

Angels Unawares

“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (Hebrews 13:2).”



While sitting in Victoria, B.C’s, Murchie’s sidewalk cafe, back in June of 2013, with my friend Archpriest Basil Rhodes, we noticed a homeless man stop behind me. The man was staring at our food, so Father Basil asked him if he was hungry. He answered with an enthusiastic “yes”, and when Father asked what he’d like to eat, he said “eggs and sausages”. Father Basil told him they didn’t have such a breakfast here, but gave him five dollars to buy it somewhere else.

The whole time this conversation was taking place with this homeless man, another man, around thirty years of age, was standing nearby, listening to every word. As the homeless man walked away, the younger man walked up and confronted us with the question, “how could you give money to a junky? You are not doing him any good by giving him money. Aren’t you men of God?”

I responded by saying that it was not our place to judge anyone, to which he replied, in a confrontational manner, “he’s just going to buy drugs with that money. You don’t seem to be very intuitive”. I told him I’d worked with the homeless before, and that the man was hungry and deserving of our charity. The man said “cheers” and dismissively walked away.

A woman seated at a nearby table called over with the words, “good response”. She then came over to our table, knelt down beside me, and with tears in her eyes, identified herself as a social worker, and told us she’d been going through a particularly difficult time, and that the interaction she’d just witnessed had helped her immensely.

I then told this woman the story of the time I was walking with an elderly bishop of the Russian Church, and how I had spotted a filthy homeless man walking towards us. This man’s hair was disheveled, filthy with years of dirt, and was wearing torn clothing. He had no soles on his shoes, so with each step we could see the bottom of his feet. Instinctively, I took the elbow of the bishop, and attempted to get him to cross in the middle of the street. The bishop asked why, and I said, “Look at the crazy man coming towards us”. The bishop told me we were not crossing, but would continue.

When directly in front of the man, the bishop stopped, reached out, taking the man’s filthy right hand into his own, and placed a twenty dollar bill into the man’s hand, covering the bill with the man’s left hand. At that moment the man looked up into our eyes, saying nothing. But looking back were the bluest, clearest eyes I had ever seen. They were not the eyes of a homeless man, nor the eyes of a deranged man, eyes filled with wisdom and holiness.

As we walked away, I remarked about the man’s eyes, to which the bishop responded by saying, “We just encountered an angel unaware, and we were being tested,” recalling the words of Scripture, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Hebrews 13:2).

After the social worker left, a man seated at a nearby table remarked, “that was the most remarkable story I’ve ever heard, and you made my wife cry”. This other couple had witnessed the whole of these encounters.

A moment later, the young man who’d judged us so harshly after the original encounter, returned. He came up, asked forgiveness for having judged us. He said he’d followed the homeless man, and witnessed him buying yogurt and fruit with the money we’d given him. I stood up, gave the young man a hug, and we all parted ways.

στο Φρικτό Γολγοθά, στο Πανίερο ναό της Αναστάσεως στα

Ιεροσόλυμα. Ησαν παρόντες προσκυνητές από την Ελλάδα.

Περιμένει στὸ Φρέαρ τοῦ Ἰακὼβ τὴν κάθε ψυχή, ὅσο ἁμαρτωλὴ κι ἂν εἶναι. Περιμένει ν' ἀδειάσει στὸ ἐξομολογητήριο τὸ θολὸ νερὸ τῆς ψυχῆς της καὶ νὰ γεμίσει μὲ νερὸ καθαρό, ὥστε νὰ μὴν διψάσει στὴν Αἰώνια Ζωή.
